Abstract

Comparative non-destructive and destructive tests on a damaged sternpost indicate how magnetic and ultrasonic inspection can be used to obtain a full picture of the location of surface and internal cracks. X-ray and gamma-ray inspection will provide additional information on the nature of the defects, especially in the thinner sections.
