Abstract

The development, refinement, standardization, and practical application of an algal assay procedure are described. Results of experiments are presented to illustrate the use of the algal assay procedure to determine algal growth-limiting nutrients in fresh waters, including lakes and streams; for the assessment of receiving waters to determine their nutrient status and sensitivity to change; for the assessment of the effects of changes in waste treatment processes on receiving waters; and for the evaluation of materials and products to determine their potential effects on algal growth.
