Abstract

A wood-pole research program begun in 1953 under sponsorship of the American Society for Testing Materials was recently completed at the Forest Products Laboratory. The research results obtained provide: (1) strength values for five species of untreated and preservative-treated poles and matching small, clear specimens; (2) data on relations between the strength of poles and the strength of clear wood; (3) evaluations of the effects of factors affecting strength; and (4) comparisons of two standard methods for testing poles.
