Abstract

Hydraulic equipment continues to greatly improve, resulting in more powerful, faster, and versatile machines through advancements in hydraulic drives and controls. One basic step in improving hydraulic systems is to understand their failure mechanisms. In this work, basic corrosion mechanisms are summered and presented along with description of corresponding hydraulic system failure modes as well as a collection of common corrosive failure modes. Mechanisms and potential remedies are illustrated and discussed. Additionally, a wide collection of examples from contributors is provided.
