Abstract

Many procedures exist worldwide to develop and to approve coolants for internal combustion engines. This paper discusses the aspects and types of coolant testing in general and the recent development of new test procedures in Europe. The work of the German coolant group is discussed in detail because they are completely revising the well known FVV Test R443/1986, which is the most important test for German car manufacturers.
