Abstract

This is a case history illustrating data correlation on relative densities measured by laboratory and field techniques on loose to medium dense, saturated fine to medium sands. The field techniques include standard penetration tests, Dutch cone soundings, and undisturbed sampling. Densities were determined in the laboratory. A discussion is presented on how the results were used to evaluate liquefaction potential of the sands under seismic vibrations. Variability in the relative density results is presented in terms of statistical parameters. These parameters are compared with the statistical parameters obtained from other published results.
