Abstract

The boundary-element method is used to determine the solution of the problem of a creeping plate with a crack. Particular attention is focussed on the numerical evaluation of a certain line integral—called the C-integral—over various paths around a crack tip, as functions of time for short times. The growth of the creep zone around a crack tip is also studied numerically.
