Abstract

Some railroads, utility companies, oil refineries, and the like, buy a portion of their maintenance paints according to specifications. Makers of automobiles, furniture, household appliances, farm machinery, and other merchandise, occasionally use specifications for the finishes that they apply to their products. But the most important users of paint specifications are tax-supported institutions. The best known specifications are those of the Federal agencies. Specifications of individual states and municipalities are not so well known, but, more often than not, their technical requirements agree with those of the Federal agencies.
