Abstract

Tests for resistance of coatings to chemicals may be relatively simple or complicated. Spot and most immersion tests are examples of the former, while procedures requiring sophisticated equipment and rigorous conditions of test can be quite complicated. Regardless of the procedure, information on details of preparation, testing, and reporting is extremely important and must be agreed upon by buyer and seller. Any change in surface appearance or condition may be considered to be a weakness and is a basis for complaint. The change is manifested by softening, swelling, discoloration, loss of gloss, loss of adhesion, or other special phenomena. In most methods these details are specified.
