The primary objective of the ANSI/OMFS Subcommittee on Material and Performance was to develop ways to maximize the efficient use of raw material in its conversion into metric fastener products, using simplicity and product performance concepts. The results have been the standardization of mechanical, metallurgical, and plating requirements for internally and externally threaded fasteners made from ferrous and nonferrous materials. During this study, considerable investigation of the actual and potential relationships of material to performance of the end product was conducted.
