Abstract

This chapter describes the background and application of elemental tests for the basic aggregate properties of unit weight, specific gravity, and absorption. Except for the discussion of the validity tests for aggregate absorption, this chapter summarizes the information on the same subjects from the original article by Timms [1] in ASTM STP 169 and the revised articles by Brink and Timms [2] in ASTM STP 169A and by Mullen [3] in ASTM STP 169B.
