The intent of this chapter is to be useful to those in the field and office who specify aggregates and who are involved in inspection and quality assurance activities. This chapter concentrates on tests relating to degradation of aggregates—both wet and dry tests—and includes a discussion of the effect of aggregate strength on concrete. Also, the effect of aggregates on wear and frictional properties of concrete in service is briefly covered.
