The subject of abrasion resistance was covered in all three previous editions of ASTM STP 169, ASTM STP 169A, and ASTM STP 169B authored by H. L. Kennedy and M. E. Prior, M. E. Prior, and R. O. Lane, respectively. The general presentation of this paper is similar to its predecessors; however, additional information on the abrasion resistance of several newly available concrete materials, such as fiber-reinforced concrete, silica-fume concrete, and polymer concrete, is included to reflect the current state of the art. This edition also includes discussions of two new abrasion test methods that have been adopted by ASTM since the publication of ASTM STP 169B in 1978.
