Abstract

Samples from a single borehole near Pass A Loutre of the Mississippi River Delta were subjected to resonant column and undrained strain-controlled triaxial tests. Degradation of the backbone curve with number of cycles of loading during the resonant column test was analyzed and found to be significant for the soft, highly plastic clay samples tested. A method for correlating the shear modulus Gmax with undrained shear strength su for these very soft sediments is proposed.
