Abstract

In the first part of the paper, the restricted flow consolidation test is described. It is simple, requires no consolidation theory for its interpretation, and is very quick, with a complete stress/strain curve obtainable in a matter of hours.

In the second part, the experimental requirements are detailed and an appropriate cell, the Oxford cell, is described.

Finally, some results are presented for reconstituted silty clay samples, to show that the restricted flow test is successful, producing repeatable and reliable results.
