Abstract

Some modifications of the present procedure for the determination of J^Ic are proposed to ensure better consistency of data. A new blunting line is proposed, which takes advantage of recent theoretical work concerning the crack-tip behavior and which shows good agreement with fractographical data. J^Ic is that point on the initial part of the R curve that is determined by the intersection of the R curve with an intercept line parallel to and by an amount Δa off the blunting line.
