Abstract

The elastic-plastic fracture toughness JIc test method recommended by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) Standard Method of Test for Elastic-Plastic Fracture Toughness JIc S001-1981 is outlined. Its applicability and utility compared with the ASTM Test for JIc, a Measure of Fracture Toughness (E 813) are discussed in this paper. It appears that JSME Standard S 001-1981 offers a superior approach to ASTM JIc determination in some aspects.
