Abstract

A data acquisition system has been designed and assembled to allow automated, unattended fatigue crack growth testing. The system employs a low-cost micro-computer and analog-to-digital converter interfaced to a standard MTS servohydraulic fatigue machine. The system is designed to comply with ASTM Test for Constant-Load-Amplitude Fatigue Crack Growth Rates Above 10−8 m/Cycle (E 647). High-performance data are obtained by the crack-opening displacement method.
