Abstract

Preliminary results from an analytical-experimental study into the response of laminated composite plates subjected to edge impacts are presented. An experimental impact facility, developed to monitor simultaneity of impact, bending due to impact, wave velocity, impact velocity, and strain histories, is shown to be satisfactory. The experimentally and analytically predicted wave velocities and strain histories are shown to be in good agreement.
