Abstract

The phase diagram of the binary system 2, 3 dimethylnaphthalene/anthracene was determined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Samples were prepared by either rapidly quenching melts or growing single crystals in a Bridgman oven. The system exhibited Roozeboom Type IV behavior with a peritectic at 115°C and an alpha-phase distribution coefficient of 2.4. This system exemplifies problems associated with determination of purity by DSC.
