    Abstract

    Analysis of variance was conducted on impurity distributions in cathodes selected from Phelps Dodge (El Paso Refinery) and two others known to operate highly efficient tank houses. The within-cathode variation confirmed previous findings. The variation between cathodes for most elements detected, however, was significantly lower than anticipated. This could be attributed to recent advances in tank house technology.
