Abstract

The reliability of routine cathode sampling procedure at Nassau Recycle Corporation was evaluated. The evaluation was conducted on both in-house and supplier's cathodes. Sampled cathodes were charged into the shaft furnace to make continuous cast wire rod, and the analyses of the cathodes and the rod from the same batch were compared. Test results indicated a good correlation between the cathode analysis and the composition of the wire rod for both in-house and suppliers' cathodes. The good correlation may be attributed to the low and fairly uniform distribution of impurities in these cathodes.
