Abstract

This paper presents some preliminary data on the thermal analysis of one-ply roofing sheets. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) data show that DSC techniques may be used to identify the type of plastic or elastomer used in one-ply roofing sheets. Products manufactured by different producers, and weathered and unexposed specimens have different shaped curves. Once a library of curves has been established, DSC testing may be used not only to identify materials and their producers, but to show aging characteristics and degree and nature of damages from general exposure and environmental influences.
