The discussion, so far, has been concerned largely with materials testing, in which the specimens are designed to suit the test machine frame. The test frame can be very complex or very simple, indeed. Structural testing, in which the test system must alter its form to suit the specimen, is a very popular form of test at present, especially in the area of component testing (Section 10.2).
