Abstract

Temperature is recognized today as one of the basic variables in science, yet even a cursory examination will indicate that a great deal of confusion exists as to what temperature means. Because the International Temperature Scale is undergoing a major revision at this time, it is appropriate that we revisit this subject, reexamine its foundations and proceed from this review with renewed confidence in our temperature measurements.
