Abstract

The correlation between hydride orientation and texture has been studjed. Previous_work showed that there are grain boundary “habits” such as {101¯1}, {101¯3}, and {101¯5} for hydride precipitation in Zircaloy-2. By taking into account the stereographic configuration of these habits, the fn-values of various specimens have been evaluated. Comparison between fn-values obtained metallographically and by the present method gives excellent agreement.

The mechanism of stress reorientation of hydride and the dependence of stress reorientation on stress direction are also discussed.
