Abstract

The application of a laboratory automation system to materials testing is described from the point of view of the user of the system rather than the designer. Both the hardware and software steps necessary for interfacing a laboratory instrument to the system are described. Application of these steps is illustrated with several examples including closed loop control of a servohydraulic mechanical testing machine and data acquisition from a magnetic hysteresigraph.
