The measurement of magnetic properties of materials is an important art. While it now embraces a large assortment of properties and techniques of considerable utility for various purposes, the measurement of direct-current (d-c) magnetic properties is still basic to the art. By d-c testing we mean the measurement of the magnetic properties when materials are subjected to a particular steady state (magnetostatic) condition or when they are changed from one magnetostatic condition to another.
