Abstract

The supplier selection process involves a specialized form of trade-off analysis. As mentioned in Chapter 12, the second major Quality objective during the procurement phase is to cause the quality factor to be considered appropriately in this trade-off analysis. The intent is not to cause the selection of the supplier who is most favorable to the Quality organization but, rather, to contribute to the selection of best supplier overall, including quality, and to recognize the quality weaknesses of the chosen supplier so that these weaknesses can be overcome by alternative or supplementary actions accomplished by the buyer's Quality organization.
