Abstract

This paper covers the development of sealant specifications starting from the three earliest specifications, namely; the ASA A116.1 (1960), and the two Federal Specifications TT-S-00227 and TT-S-00230 which served as models for specifications developed throughout the world. Specifications from the United States, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Norway, Japan, and Australia are compared in their performance requirements. Comments are given on the severity of the various specifications. This paper covers developments through 1975.
