This method describes an engine test procedure that evaluates engine oils with respect to sludge and varnish deposits produced by engine operation under a combination of low and mid-range temperatures. This test also indicates the capacity of the oil to keep positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valves clean and functioning properly.
