Waterproofing—Problems in Terminology

Source

The word “waterproofing” means different things to different people. The existing definitions for the word are reviewed, and more specifically worded definitions are proposed. The use of the generic term “protective system” is suggested. Descriptions of the various degrees of protection against water and contaminate attack afforded for concrete and masonry structures by various generically defined systems are presented along with why the differences between such systems are important.
