Laboratory Accreditation in Canada: Update

Source

In 1970 the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) established the National Standards System (NSS) as a framework for managing standards work in Canada. The accreditation program for testing organizations is a critical component of the NSS. This paper reviews current SCC accreditation criteria and requirements for testing laboratories and—since 1984—calibration laboratories. It emphasizes the importance of the cooperation between the Department of National Defence, the National Research Council of Canada, and SCC and concludes with a review of the benefits resulting from a recently created network for accredited calibration laboratories.
