Abstract

Effects of moisture absorption on the mechanical behavior of glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) composites were examined. At 100°C and 95% relative humidity, significant moisture absorption into PPS composites took place within a period of one or two weeks. Large reduction in tensile strengths from 25 to 46% were observed. This reduction is significantly increased up to 60% if the thermoplastic material is not properly crystallized.
