Abstract

This paper describes a unique governmental agency devoted to the promotion of safety in sports in Canada, La Régie de la Sécurité dans les Sports du Québec (Quebec Sports Safety Board).

The paper reviews the mandate of the board as well as its regulatory, research, and education functions. The intervention model used by the board to guide its actions is also presented. Finally, certain specific activities related to safety in ice hockey which have been conducted so far by the board are discussed.
