Advanced composite materials are used to replace more traditional metals and alloys in structural applications. Material property data for these composite materials are necessary for their use. The analysis and evaluation of these data, prior to their inclusion in a materials properties database, is essential due to variability that may result from test methodology, processing, and other factors. The systematic evaluation of these data requires consideration of the initial treatment of the data, statistical analysis, technical evaluation of the data, and assessment of the test procedure and other documentation. The information is presented at the review level since the details of each step in the process, particularly the statistical analysis and the theoretical predictions of properties, are clearly beyond the scope of the paper. References are provided for more detailed information.
