Recent action by ASTM Committee E 49.05 has renewed progress in addressing quality and reliability issues for materials databases. Three major thrusts, the development of a guide for the development and management of materials databases, standardization of specific quality indicators for data and databases, and standardization of database descriptions are being carried forward. An overview of these three activities is provided in this paper.
