Abstract

For 20 years, the Wehner/Schulze polishing machine at Berlin Technical University has been used as a testing system for analyzing the relationship between the polishing resistance of mineral aggregates used in road construction and the skid resistance of road surfaces used by traffic. The results obtained suggest that real traffic conditions have been successfully simulated and reproduced. The machine is described with reference to an actual test on the influence of the polishing resistance of sand on the skid resistance of asphalt layers.
