    Abstract

    This paper reviews two experimental and analytical studies made in Japan on predicting the brittle crack propagation and arrest behavior using wide plate testings and the dynamic or simplified dynamic analysis technique. Also reviewed is an analysis, though statical in technique employed, made of an upper deck plating brittle failure experienced by a 10 379 gross ton bulk carrier.
