Abstract

The guidelines for the inspection and evaluation of the structural condition of existing buildings provide information on how to approach the inspection and evaluation, what to look for during such an inspection, how to evaluate observations, and how to determine what actions should be taken and what procedures should be followed in improving a given situation in which the building is found. The guidelines are both materialand system-oriented, thus covering the materials commonly used in building construction and repair as well as the systems involved in the design and construction of the structural members, components, subassemblies, and unfinished as well as completed buildings.
