Abstract

Microhardness values of plated coating have been included as part of many specifications without much information on the precision and bias of the test method. To develop this information for inclusion in a proposed revision of an ASTM test method covering this subject, some additional round-robin testing has been completed. This paper discusses the planning of the round robin, preparation of the specimens, factors in precision of the method, and it presents histograms of the data collected to date. Wide variances of microhardness values were obtained. Further testing is in process.
