Abstract

Diaphragm wall with leaky or defective joints have been identified as one of the main reasons that lead to ground loss and associated structural distress of adjacent buildings. In recent years, improvements in joint details and construction procedures have been proved successful in achieving watertightness requirements of structural diaphragm walls for deep excavation projects in Taiwan. The various factors which lead to leaky or defective joints and possible preventive measures are addressed.
