Abstract

Measurements of the air infiltration rate of three large single-cell buildings have been carried out using the tracer dilution method. The purpose of the measurements was to determine whether or not there are any special difficulties in using the tracer dilution method in this type of building prior to embarking on a more substantial measurement program. The tracers used were nitrous oxide and sulfur hexafluoride. Both were found to be satisfactory, but it was concluded that sulfur hexafluoride, in conjunction with a portable gas chromatograph, performed more reliably when used for on-site measurements and therefore was to be preferred.
