    Infrared Microscopy: A Single-Fiber Technique

    The advantages and limitations of Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FT-IR) microscopy are discussed. Use of a single aperture at an image plane leads to drastic reductions in photometric accuracy in the spectra of single fibers. Improved performance can be achieved by using physical aperturing. The polarization properties of the microscope have been determined and infrared dichroic spectra of single fibers are shown.
