Abstract

A fully integrated stress wave sensor has been created which incorporates the basic functions of an AE system. The sensor is mounted in a robust and easy to install housing which greatly simplifies the sensing of stress wave activities in the industrial environment. The use of signal enveloping techniques in the sensor eases the subsequent handling of its outputs whilst retaining the useful information in the detected stress wave signal. A number of applications are discussed to illustrate the versatility of the approach described.
