Abstract

Groundwater monitoring wells are used extensively in the United States to detect and monitor plumes of contamination. Only with proper installation can the environmental scientist ensure that representative water samples are collected and that well installation will not contaminate “clean” aquifers. Options for drilling methods and well materials are discussed and their strengths and weaknesses are weighed.
