Abstract

A study was initiated to develop an automated injection system that would permit pesticide concentrate to be metered and mixed without the operator handling it manually or coming in contact with the chemical. A special jet nozzle assembly was designed that would allow the concentrate to be injected close to the discharge of the nozzle tip, and ensure good mixing of the concentrate with diluent for uniform deposition. This nozzle assembly allowed for a minimum of system concentration injection lag time in response to changes in ground speed. A complete spray system was then mounted on a Hesston 500 swather and field tested.
