Abstract

The seven-day larval survival and growth test with the sheepshead minnow (Cyprinodon variegatus) is a modification of the previously published freshwater test with the fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas). Three sheepshead minnow larval survival and growth tests were conducted with hexavalent chromium and four tests were conducted with sodium pentachlorophenate to evaluate the intralaboratory precision and sensitivity of the draft protocol and determine the readiness of the test for NPDES permit biomonitoring as would be used by industrial dischargers. The mean MATC for the three hexavalent chromium tests was 6.8 mg/L, with a coefficient of variation of 51.5%. The mean MATC and coefficient of variation for the four sodium pentachlorophenate tests was 430 μg/L and 43.5%, respectively.
