Experimental Study on Dynamic Properties of Clay Modified by Aught-Set Solidifying Agent Subjected to Freeze-Thaw Cycles

Source

Clay modified by a solidifying agent has been used in the recent construction of high-speed rails in northern China because of a lack of good fill material. In this study, the dynamic properties of a clay modified by “aught-set” solidifying agent (a Chinese product) subjected to freeze-thaw cycles were analyzed. Dynamic triaxial tests were carried out on clay modified by aught-set solidifying agent that had been subjected to freeze-thaw cycles. The variation of the critical dynamic stress (CDS) with the cycles and freezing temperature during freeze-thaw was obtained. The results show that the CDS of modified clay decreased with the number of freeze-thaw cycles and decreasing freezing temperature.
