View License Agreement Various factors in the paper marketplace are catalyzing an accelerating trend toward alkaline papermaking technology. These factors include the development of synthetic sizing (water penetration resistance) chemicals, the on-site precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) plant concept, functional improvements in process control chemicals, a decrease in the availability and corresponding increase in the cost of high quality wood fiber and key mineral fillers, and heightened customer sensitivity to paper permanence (storage longevity). The total lime required for manufacturing PCC to be used by the paper industry in fine papers in 1994 is forecast to be 1 430 000 metric tons. | ||
